Share Your Favourite Softball Practice Drill

Coaches — let's build a collection of practice drills that have actually worked with real teams.

Share one of your favourite drills, whether it's something you've developed yourself, learned from another coach, or adapted over the years.

It can cover any part of the game:

  • Hitting
  • Bunting or slapping
  • Infield
  • Outfield
  • Pitching
  • Catching
  • Baserunning
  • Team defence
  • Relays and communication
  • Situational softball
  • Speed and agility
  • Competition or conditioning
  • Warm-ups
  • Mental skills or team building

When sharing a drill, try using this format:

Drill name:

Age group:

Skill being developed:

Players needed:

Equipment needed:

Setup:

How it works:

Coaching points:

Variations or progressions:

You don't need to fill out every section. The goal is simply to provide enough information that another coach could take the drill to practice and use it.

And don't be afraid to share the simple drills.

Sometimes the drill that looks basic on paper is the one that gets the most repetitions, creates the most competition, or finally gets a skill to click for a player.

If you try a drill someone posts here, come back and let them know how it worked with your team.

What's one practice drill you keep coming back to?
